How much are they charging you to move the meter? I had been put off by people telling me it was so much but don't actually know how much it is!!

We are waiting on a quote for the electricity one, which should be with us in a few days.
For the gas, to put in 2m of new external pipework, supply a semi-concealed meter box and reinstate will be £666. We then have to actually have the meter changed and moved into the new box and some internal pipework done. At the moment the internal pipe goes at head height through where a new internal door is going to be fitted.

We're budgeting around £1,200 at the moment to move both.
The electric meter should be a bit easier as it will be moving 2m-ish to the inside of the new internal hallway wall.

After weeks of sunshine the weather has taken a turn for the worse and we've had a fair bit of rain. Thankfully the wood beams and boarding for the new flat roof are in place. There's still felting etc to do on the roof before fascia boards are fitted.
The windows and front door should be arriving late next week and once fitted we will be water tight.
The gas meter is booked in to be moved on the 22/8 and the electricity meter on the 30/9 at the latest. There's plenty for the builders to be getting on with in the meantime.

I like the way the old garage door is there there
Fingers crossed the roof gets all done before the weather really turns. Not looking forward to having to re-roof out garage when I insulate it.

Cheers Rob.
The garage door is still there for security more than anything. With a few things stored behind it, it should act as a deterrent.
When the windows arrive the builders will chop it in half to get it out.

What a difference the fascia boards and roof make to the overall look of the extension.
The windows and front door will be with us next week and will hopefully be fitted soon after.
The gas meter was moved today from inside the garage into it's new semi-concealed box. All went without a hitch and the new internal pipework will be completed tomorrow. Reinstatement will be completed within the next 5 working days.
We've also had a quote through today for replacing all the external hanging tiles. We're happy with the quote, so once we've confirmed the colour they will be ordered and hung.

No update for last week as not a lot happened! This was mainly due to a delay on the windows and front door, which are now due this week. The only points of note were that SGN came back to reinstate the drive and the steel and support for in the kitchen were delivered.
Fast forward to today and they have started work inside the house. I knew it was going to be dusty but upon opening the front door there is a sea of beige. We're telling ourselves that it will be good in the end.
The back wall of the kitchen has started to come come out and you can see the props in place ready for when the steel goes in.
Opening the door to the downstairs cloakroom I was surprised (but happy) to see it has now been taken out, including the walls.
There's not a lot stopping them partitioning the bathroom and home cinema room now.
Last pic for this update. You can see where the old gas meter and piping used to be, with the new pipe running along the floor. This had to be re-routed as it was at head height for the new doorway. The electric meter is still in position, which is slap bang in the middle of where the doorway will be cut out. This will all be moved this month once some plastering has been done in the new hallway.

Time for some more updates.
The vertical and horizontal steels were fitted into the kitchen. Since the pics below were taken, the concrete has set and prop has been removed.
New internal doorway cut out of the original brickwork. The electricity meter has been temporarily moved to the inside of the new lounge/home cinema room. The brickies have also raised the height of the old external (now internal) wall before plastering is done.
Ground pipework for the new bathroom finished and manhole cover raised. Foam laid ahead of concrete being put down to raise the floor level.
Got home today and the floor has been concreted.
We've also had the two windows fitted to the extension, which we are really pleased with.
The rest of the windows and front door are on site and due to be fitted Friday. The builders are also starting to separate the bathroom and lounge once the concrete has set.
More updates soon...

Only one pic from today.
For part of the morning it was lashing it down which probably slowed down progress.
All windows have now been fitted to the front of the house. As you can see we have removed the double height window and replaced it with a single height one. The brickwork underneath the window will be plastered in the bedroom.
All the tiles have also been removed and will be replaced with new ones, the same colour as before.
We're really pleased with the style of the new windows which has removed the smaller horizontal upper opening that we had before. Once the door is fitted they can start on the rest of the internal work.

Much better. The double height window looked a bit odd.
Progress is pretty quick. Will it be finished by Christmas?

Cheers. We're hoping that it will be all done before Christmas.
I'm looking forward to decorating now; not for my love of painting, it will just mean that we aren't far off finishing.

We're now water tight after the new composite front door was fitted.
For a few days we had two front doors, but the old one has now been taken out. The wall under the hallway window has also been plastered because next week the electric meter and fuse box are being relocated there.
The builders have now started the work to divide up the old garage, so we can now get a visual idea of the dimensions for the bathroom (at the back) and lounge.

Things have been moving along nicely and the dust bowl is ever increasing!
We've now had the electric meter moved and a new fuse box fitted. We plan to box these in with some kind of small seating area.
Whilst this was being done the electrician started to run the cables for new lights, sockets, switches etc. They are running all over the place at the moment and will be hidden away properly once the new ceilings are fitted.
The old doorway to the downstairs bathroom has been removed to level the wall in the hallway. It's now easier to see how the layout for the bathroom is shaping up.
Last but not least, we had the new kitchen delivered on Friday. There wasn't quite enough room for it in the lounge along with the bathroom stuff, so there's a bit of over spill into the new lounge.

You willing to talk about the costs for this out of interest? Budget vs actuals would be interesting.
Liking the progress!

The actuals haven't really strayed too far from the budget as we agreed a fixed price for the building work. Any changes to that price have mainly been for "extras" that we have specced along the way.

Lots of progress this week; however, it's not the easiest to capture in pics as it would be more of a case of spot the difference with earlier updates.
The hallway walls have been leveled off and the lintels removed that were above the old front door and hallway door.
Plaster board has started to go up, as well as insulation. Since this pic was taken lots more boarding has gone up in the new lounge.
Most of the kitchen has been ripped out, leaving us with one cupboard, the sink and cooker.
I got a copy of the kitchen elevation drawings from Howdens yesterday and the builders are going to mark out the positioning for the higher level cupboards. This will be a guide for the plumber who is due to fit a new boiler in a new location (hidden behind a cupboard).
The electrician is due back soon to do work in the kitchen and the other rooms before any plastering can begin.

Good progress. My kitchen was like that for 2 weeks. Once the sink was gone we were washing up in the bath.

That's sad times having to wash up in the bath. Hopefully we aren't in that situation for too long.
