Your, and I was updating because other people were waiting, they obviously don't care about my delivery.

Or maybe obvious wasn't obvious enough for you?

Just got an apple leather case, they are pretty nice. Took me ages to find a good one though, most of them had some sort of mark. Doesn't really bode well for longevity.

A2H wow I didn't think that was possible! I get around 2Mb/s on 3G... so as you can see, a great improvement for me.

What type of 3G connection allows those speeds?

The HSDPA type...(technically it can do up to 42mb).

I know the whole "4G" term is a bit diluted and not exactly set in stone, but would those speeds not require HSDPA+ and would that not be considered 4G along with LTE?

My 3G enabled iPhone 4 certainly wouldn't be capable of those speeds.

It's not classed as 4G as far as I'm aware, shows as a 3G connection (H+ on Android) and is obtainable in areas (for example in that screenshot) where 4G is not available.

From Wiki...

"High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) is an enhanced 3G (third-generation) mobile-telephony communications protocol"

The confusion starts when you're trying to compare 4G with 3G by posting speedtest results, when in reality you're comparing LTE with HSDPA+.

Like I said, my phone has 3G but would not support speeds faster than a tenth of what is shown here.

I know this is all down to poor marketing from the mobile providers side, by the way.
But still it's all a bit confusing for everyone that "4G isn't faster than 3G" when that's not the whole truth...

Noone said 4G isn't faster than 3G and just becuase your phone doens't support a newer version of 3G dosen't mean it's not 3G (we don't differentiate all the other types of 3G and call them W-CDMA or TD-SCMA so I don't see why this would be any different).

ps. You're right that it's all branding, but as above, people would get pretty confused if we started using the technical names for each of the protocols to refer to them.

Good point. 3G not just being 3G isn't a new thing at all.

I imagine my iPhone will achieve faster internet speeds than my first Sony Ericsson 3G phone did back in 2004...

Yup, I think iPhone 4 supports HSDPA "3G" up to 7.5mb...

I thought they took payment when I ordered it. My account balance went down but no entry from Apple in the online banking.

Now just noticed that my account has dropped a fair bit again but this time I actually have an entry from Apple.

Anyone else think they may have been billed twice?

Naa, seems to be they pre auth it, then it appears back, then they take it off properly at some other point. I never seen the pre auth but can see the latest one was taken off a couple of days ago.

Apart from the official iPhone case what other cases are you all using? I just need a plain black gel type which is thin and doesn't have a flip front.

28.8, 43.2 or 57.6 at a guess...
