No chance, even though he isn't, they'll just wait until next year and bring out one that's able to make phone calls and market it as a new feature.

That's typical apple response, not redesigning a major part of the phone after it's already been released.

Tried pre-ordering the white 16Gb model today but they aren't allowing anyone to do that until stock arrives in the UK

It wasn't, they had problems manufacturing it before the antenna issue was reported.

sorry got to agree here, ive been on this forum years and pretty much every time bubble has told us some insider info its been wrong or hugely underwhelming.
i still remember the mobile phone that has 4 things never seen before and will revolutionise the mobile market as we know it *cough cough* BB storm.
i would hazard a guess you really dont know much about it at all, no offence, but i have read some of the things apple employee's have to sign and do in order to keep things like this a secret i doubt they would tell some random mobile employee.

i assume the white ones have been recalled because of the substance being used to bond the glass to the product has dis-coloured after curing. Something a lot clearer to see on a white model rather than black!
also heard rumours that the white is screen printed and the tolerance issues and specification is so tight that its causing issues!
all rumours though

Anyone got an idea when more stock is expected? My local o2 shop said 3-4 weeks?! Surely apple must know the demand and would have been prepared for this in manufacturing terms?

Might be about right. Apple store is listing a 3 week lead time.

they simply cant make them fast enough, they sold 1.8 million in 2 days, thats a staggering amount.
My guess is they simply didnt bother with white and concentrated on black.
Its the same as any new product launch, even WII, you couldnt buy one in many places for a while.

I nipped into the O2 shop in cheetham Hill earlier on, They have nothing in stock for the 4 not even covers.
They had a sign at the front of the store saying about 3 weeks until their next batch being in stock.
I had to order my cover for them to deliver it, It's awful being scared to place your phone on a plastic dashboard in case you scratch it
All my previous phones have been chucked around and generally mistreated

I really hope they sort the problem, If fitting a cover sorts it then I would be happy with that as I want a cover anyway as my lifestyle would ruin the phone otherwise.
Just waiting for my cover to arrive, It was annoying losing all signal sat in the car earlier today.

How can you be sure? Everytime i speak to someone they say 'tomorrow' and then the same thing happens the following day.

Interestingly, all these steve jobs emails are reportedly fake http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/01/apple-pr-says-recent-steve-jobs-emails-are-fake/
with an exchange of money being talked about from the person who reported these emails.
