I doubt 3 will be releasing it for some time as the stock levels are very low and I bet they are last on the list to get any handsets

Apple have now said its all a signal reporting issue which has been there since the 3G. They have been showing more bars than they should.
They are still denying any sort of issue with the aerial design and it dropping calls.
How once the fix comes out all those with 3/4 bars are now going to have 1/2 bars wohoo.
Intersting to see how they claim they have been over calculating the signal yet even WITH that they often how a lower signal than many other phones in the same place on the same operater

Confirmation of what Rob said:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/10490572.stm
Does seem strange that I get the same or less signal on my iPhone than any other phones i've used and they are saying that thats been over reading by 2 bars
I also dont understand how its going to make any difference to the signal dropping, surely it will just drop to nothing faster as there will be less bars? Or are they saying that their forumla was completely wrong so that instead of it dropping one bar when held(which is understandable) its dropping 4-5 and this is what they are patching?

TBH it would make sense to me about the over estimating the signal thing - as the amount of times Ive had a crap reception and Ive been shouting at the person on the other end telling them its their signal as Ive got full bars

So calls are being dropped because it's reporting an incorrect signal, I don't think so.
The signal bars issue was to do with scale, the 5th bar represented 20db but the remaining 4 bars only represented 23db altogether because of the logarithmic scale.
I don't see how that is causing the real drop outs, people aren't making them up.
Edit to say that the dropouts only happen when you hold it and connect the 2 antennas, that coupled with the hiring of antenna engineers means it's not just software.

This explains it better and confirms my thoughts that i still can't be fixed via software:

Thats it, there are videos of people loading web pages and as soon as they bridge that gap the page stops loading, let go and it carrys on. If it was just a problem with the signal bar display the page would continue to load as normal even though the phone showed no signal.

It's 2 seperate issues as it has been all along, they're trying to be sneaky about it, not unexpected tbh, they could never recall them all.
One little step closer to this Apple bubble bursting.

All it does is confirm that all those who thought they weren't affected by the problem actually are.
I hope they put a hardware fix in on the next deliverys, making sure its outside the 14 day returns period with no recall, just to annoy all the people who stood in queue's on day 1
Then ill buy one

They've been advertising for antenna engineers for ages though. Granted the ones posted on that blog a while ago were very recent additions to the listings, but never mind.

Its quite clever really. Now they will show less signal so when a call is dropped they will just say "Oh its the operater go talk to them". Makes it even harder to claim from them.
Supprised they way they are handling it. Spoken to a number of 'mac' boys and even they say they are going to be very careful about spending any major money with apple as they have really tarnished thier "You might pay a little more for it but you get awesome service" image.
