Yeah I think the higher price meant they were covering themselves in either case and as you say, maximised sales and exposure for an actual appalling phone... but now the operators are subsidising the handsets the onus is on them to ensure custoemrs connect to the correct netwrok
And ta-da... you have the basis for a multi-multi billion pound industry that existed long before Apple turned up

Nope, just speculation atm
They wil be very very expensive on PAYT... probably like £400/500!
IIRC you can't actually buy a Gen 1 anymore as they are all sold out

That would be me and I disagree
I have an N95 8GB in front of me now and I'll go grab an iPhone, the N95 will fit much better in my pocket :/
iPhone is too wide and tall for a pocket... people look silly talkign on them IMO

Until someone unlocks one, there will be loopholes as always.

Dont know if it has been said but:-
Best of all, the new 8GB iPhone won't cost you a penny on our £45 and £75 tariffs. And it's just £99 on our £35 tariff and new £30 tariff.

does the N95 still suffer the from purple/red tint on photos?
As of version 2.0, iphones will be able to do MMS and iphone supports 3G, so internet is fairly quick.
And the iphone will be on PAYG, just notice that it's in black and white on the site. As for it being expensive, probably......but it does have it's advantages and disadvantages, just like a N95.

How often do you use the net on the move when you cant get wifi though? I certainly don't, and if its that urgent I can deal with the wait and paying for it.
