The average user can screw and be able to restore it, unless you're doing something really wierd. So you're safe.

I don't think that's possible unless you're really messing with it. Loading the Jailbreak and other software isn't going to fuck the phone up.

What I meant was the phone coul refuse to turn on for many reasons(not inc jailbreak) is this happens, I will not be able to reverse jailbreak, before i send it off for repair.

My phone is due to arrive tomorrow, is there nything I have to have or anything worth knowing?

Stop worrying about it... I had my 3g jailbroken for 18 months and had no issues. Felt like I'd lost my left arm when my IP4 arrived and I couldn't jailbreak it. Learned to love the phone anyway, but when the jailbreakme site went live, it just added to the enjoyment of owning the phone when I could have all my old tweaks back again.

I've restored my 3g a couple of times just to have a clear up and it's gone back to standard no probs.

Nothing to worry about... but if you still are worried, simply don't bother jailbreaking

If it does not turn on for you then it will not turn on when its returned so will just get put in the pile to be refurbed. There is no way they would go to the effort of dismantling it, connecting up the various bits, making sure it was not jailbroken. Its just not worth thier while. It would cost them more to investigate it than they would make from you buying a new phone.

Generation, I had exactly the same questions before I first jailbroken my phone.
At the time, jailbreaking wasnt particularly well known and the only tools I had to use was buggy software which wasnt reliable.

Theres nothing that can go wrong these days, you cant brick it or fcuk it up, so dont worry.

Chances are it'll be shipped with 4.0.2 and you wont be able to jailbreak for a few weeks anyway.

Drop me a PM if you have any other questions.

Jailbreaking is now completely legal in America, I can't see them refusing anywhere else in the world.

Back in the day when i got my 2G on release, jailbreaking was awesome as you could do all the stuff you couldn't at the time, wallpaper, forward messages, send sms to multiple people, MMS ...etc. But as the generations and software have come on and apple have addressed most of the issues, i hardly use any Jailbroken stuff. Infact only thing i use is installous for the free apps.

redsn0wier

We’ve released a beta version of redsn0w for the iPhone3G and iPod Touch 2G at FW 4.1 or 4.0. It uses the same pwnage2 DFU-mode exploit that we’ve been using since the 2.x days. It does not include the SHAtter exploit developed by pod2g. Nothing new is revealed to Apple with this jailbreak.

IF YOU USE THE ULTRASN0W UNLOCK, PLEASE WAIT FOR PWNAGETOOL TO SUPPORT 4.1. DO NOT USE REDSN0W. That’s because to use redsn0w at 4.1, you need to already have updated to official 4.1 from Apple. If you do that, you lose the ultrasn0w unlock (possibly forever).

The Windows version needs further testing, so for now this is available only for Mac OS X x86. The Windows version will come as soon as the bugs are ironed out.

Note: if you have an “MC” model of the ipt2g, your 4.1 jailbreak will be tethered…sorry! (Consider rolling back to a FW supported by jailbreakme.com or spiritjb.com)

===== What devices, platforms, and FW versions are supported? =====

This BETA release supports:

* iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G only (for now)
* Mac OS X x86 only (for now)
* 4.1 or 4.0 firmware from Apple

Is there normally any way to downgrade basebands?

From what I'm reading it won't be possible.

Got somebody's iPhone 4 that's been updated to 4.1, no SHSH blob stored on cydia.

Yes.

If your not jailbroken your better off going to 4.1 as its meant to sort quite a few of the 3G performance problems.

It is jailbroken, i'd have to have a look and see if she uses any of the jailbroken stuff.

If not you think she would be better going to 4.1? Didnt realised they had adressed the 3g speed issues with the update.

its very buggy by all accounts?
Im debating whether to wait for 4.2 or not, its not too far away.

*edit, dont ever post to 3rd party sites who host other versions of the files, since the original is already on beta 4; http://www.limera1n.com

Supposed to be a bit suspect, dev team guys are working on packaging up this exploit so they can keep the shatter one for the next release.
