Some lenders do all the footwork and then the val at what would seem the last minute.
Others do it before the footwork.
You'll receive your copy of the mortgage offer, your solicitor will get their copy a couple of working days later.
When yours arrives just check things are spelt correctly because if they aren't they'll need to reissue a new offer, causing delays.

So yeah, no news
Spoke to a friend yesterday who was a "mortgage advisor" at the Nationwide call centre. He said that the Help to Buy stuff, even Mortgage Guarantee, is all lumped together and checked/done manually. Normally mortgages tends to be a bit automated, hence the valuation being instructed quickly.
Hopefully the valuation will actually get instructed this week with survey next week, what with the bank holiday n'all.
Went by a Santander branch on Saturday, nearly walked in and had a word

I'm sure it will be fine. I found that nothing happens fast when buying a house.

Maybe jumping ahead a bit but with your buildings insurance (needs to be in place upon exchange of contracts) have a gander at places like topcashback / quidco. Some quotes come out okay after the cashback. Unless it's all arranged already.

Not arranged no. Not a condition of the mortgage to take out with The Abbey either. Will certainly check out. Got 5000 Nectar points bonus voucher from Sainsburys for Buildings & Contents

good stuff.
Neh, very rare you're made to take out BINs with the lender, it is easier sometimes. But for FTB it's easier and financially better to shop around really.

We were basically bullied in to buying buildings insurance through our lender. Proper scaremongering bastards.
Probably paid double what I should have.

Cheapest quote is £79.50 for Buildings Insurance. Said I am within 400m of water. Not entirely sure if I am but probably am as the crow flies.
Sound about right for a ~1910's mid-terraced 2-up-2-down?
This price was a quick compare the market type thing though.

Of course! But as I will have some expensive bikes, I need to look at that with individual insurers and not comparison sites to ensure they're properly covered i.e. full new for old value not up to £1,500.

So just did a joint Buildings & Contents insurance quote with M&S, to cover the bikes. £4000 for one, £3500 for the other.
£72/month

Got Buildings & Contents down to circa £475/year including the bikes from local broker. Few things changing which will nudge it up but certainly won't hit £800.
Santander queried regular payment into savings account today, so underwriters are looking at our case

Hoo-fucking-ray. Santander have finally instructed the valuation mortgage! Only applied on 4th April!
Been caught up in this MMR bollocks. Offices in chaos plus they have the most competitive Help to Buy product on the market.
Spoke to the vendor today as the tenants have moved out. He is still keen and sorting out contract stuff, apologised for being slow. Said "lets get this sorted as soon as possible".
Winner winner chicken dinner.

Make sure you have a good read of the paperwork when it comes through to sign. We are currently in "discussions" with Santander about why the 5 year fixed they have offered us only lasts for 58 months.

So, Valuation Survey has been booked...for the 16th May. Bang goes our Bank Holiday House Warming BBQ! Does mean we can take our time decorating and sorting the place out though!
On a brighter note, went round my mates and had a cheeky look in the barn. It is massive
So it looks like it is going to be 8 weeks from offer acceptance to completion. Shite going for chain free. Bloody Santander.
