Since launch there has been a 30 day free return on offer so thats not actually a change as a result of these issues.

It's not even 0.55% of all those that bought the phone, it's 0.55% of those who called AppleCare about the phone. Absolutely tiny number!

Not saying people aren't experiencing it, but not many have made actual complaints!

Of couse, they can't get data on those that don't report it. If they didn't report it, they couldn't have considered it that much of an issue.

Try it in a low signal area

My mates drops to no bars at my house though normal grip when starting on 2 bars.

But that's OK because its not made by Apple.

Looks like it's the Wifi or 3G (not longer have an android phone so can't remember the icon layout) signal that drops not the 2G signal. Plus that is no 'normal' grip for making a call

Edit - Also it's 0.55% (16500) reported cases to Applecare, which doesn't take into account people returning the phone because of the issue or complaining to their operator. I imagine the actual figure to be a bit higher.

Even though a small percentage, 16k complaints to applecare alone is a lot.

I'm not saying other phones don't have faults, other manufacturers don't get away with saying, 'we know it's broken really, have a free case though and we'll all forget it ever happened'.

its not bad is it really lets be honest
i dont think it is anyway
depends how fussy you are.

i hold mine a little further up when browsing the web and its fine.
right handed so it doesnt matter with calls.
also the bumper case will sort it

I know 16k is a lot, but out of 3 million sold? That percentage doesn't even fit on my calculator

I wonder if it had been any other company whether all the websites would have jumped on the issue. If thats right, then even less people would have even heard about the issue to report it in the first place.

This is why i asked a couple of pages back whether people on here had actually had dropped calls when their previous phone didn't drop calls in the same place.

to be honest, it's not the fact the phone has the fault, as John just said and a few of us before, it's how Apple have basically bullshitted their customers by blaming it on everything but the antenna and developed a software fixe for a hardware issue which is about as useful as a fish with boobs. It's a complete shambles of a situation

Edit - Oh and handing out free 'bumpers' is like giving a mine victim a plaster - it's not a real solution is it

As already mentioned, you have to look at the percentage, 16,500 sounds a lot but that only because they have sold so many units and in reality it is actually a very small %. Granted it does not include those who complained using other methods but its using the same data as previous 3GS complaints and is still lower.

The link i posted earlier was just the first one i came to and was only posted to highlight the point that all phones are affeted, however the iPhone 4 seemed more dramatic due to the reception algorithm which has now been amended.

Have they bullshitted customers though? Until now they've not really commented on it which is understandable until they'd formulated a worthwhile response. They've come out with an explanation and offered a free case.

Doesn't seem like a shambles to me. If people were getting dropped calls in massive numbers then they would need to do more, but if the figures they've put out are correct, it's not better or worse than the 3GS.

I agree that the software fix is a bit pointless though.

I can 'cause' the signal drop. Have I ever dropped a call or had any problems. No. Thats why IMO its not such a bid deal. In real world use it barely affects anyone.

Have we established how/when you get this free bumper case thing they're offering? Might have missed it in one of the previous posts...

Wonder what cases will be available, also assuming that you'd need to have bought the case from Apple to get a refund. I'd quite like a bumper but the only place to get it from is EBay at an inflated price

More worried about breaking it than anything else TBH...
