What other phones of the same age or newer have you used for an extended period of time?
Didn't want to make this thread about the S2. I don't think anyone expect it to outperform anything today.
But since you asked.
I was given an S2 at work to replace an iPhone 4 (which I believe is older?).
Build quality of the S2 is terrible. I felt like I'd crush it if I held it too hard.
Touchscreen was unresponsive and simple tasks like scrolling through photographs was too much for the phone to handle smoothly.
UI was terrible, illogical and clustered. From the phones "home screen" there were three different ways to get to the settings menu. That's just terrible, terrible UI design.
While on the settings menu, the whole thing was just white text on a black background. Complete PITA to navigate, no GUI at all.
Also under settings, things seem to be randomly placed under subcategories so you'd have to browse through every single category to find the setting you wanted to change. No logic behind the layout.
What else? Can't remember, I hated everything about it with a passion. Hated the phonebook too, but can't remember why.
After 3 months I gave up and went back on the iPhone 4.

I don't get how you got that from the s2, mine is battered but has never broken and I don't look after phones, I don't think mine has ever seen a screen protector never mind a case etc. I'd confidently drop it on the floor, iPhone, not so much!

Balling sounds like me after a month of going android.
Boring or not it's made me appreciate iOS even more than before.

I honestly didn't intend to make this in to the usual fucking battle.
Like I said, the build quality felt cheap. After three months of ownership I obviously don't have any way of knowing how well the phone takes a beating. I just didn't like the feel of the thin plastic backpanel.
I remember fitting the SIM card, taking the phone apart to do so, and the whole thing just felt like it was about to snap.
But to get just a bit back on track, I'm sure the S4 is going to feel like a huge improvement. Even if you do like the S2.

You're wrong mate, Samsung are well known for their build quality.

Fair play Balling! I'll disagree with some bits and pieces but was mainly interested in your thoughts

Embargo lifts, reviews are out, and the verdict? You're better off with a HTC One.

HTC One looks like an awesome phone tbh. Great build and beautiful design.
In the S4 review, things like this:
quote:
Nearly all Android phones already come with two email apps — one reserved for Google’s Gmail. But on the Galaxy S 4, there are also two online video and music stores, two music and video players, two calendars and two browsers.
(snip)
You can add this feature, via the settings menu, in — you guessed it — two different ways.
Makes me cringe.

Whilst HTC are slowly moving closer to pure android, Samsung are steaming in the opposite direction. The S4 OS is almost indistinguishable from pure android and I can see that burning them in the future. You know it's a pain in the arse to use when you have to build in an 'Easy Mode'.

I also liked an improved version of Easy Mode, which substitutes the sometimes confusing normal screens and settings panels for simpler ones with larger, cleaner icons and simplified settings.
sounds like "iphone mode"

Just had a quick skim of The Verge's review...
"Samsung probably should’ve taken this as a sign, because if your phone needs Easy Mode you’re probably doing something wrong"

No mate. Apple phones are so good that they all get jail breaked/broken, for some reason.
