Yea, but the parts needed cost fortunes. like the 7990 gpus, which u need about 4 of to mine ltc now and get a decent return.
Next thing im noticing, btc value has sat pretty level for a few hours, the charts look pretty similar to last night. Another reason I expect it to shoot up when china wakes up in a few hours.
We shall see!! Wish I had more coins!!

It's addictive. Btc-e charge 0.1ltc to withdraw from their wallet. So technically I only had 3.9 ltc. Wasn't happy with that so bought another. Paid a few quid less for that one too which is annoying.

Both. Litecoin app played up at first.
They all have their pros and cons though.
Btc-e charge for withdrawal which I can't get around now, mobile wallet is fucked if yo loose phone and official litecoin wallet is a little unstable and if your pc Fucks without backup your screwed.
Backed up official wallet seems the best option.

Na, but I thought it'd make a cool nerdy Christmas gift to give someone 1LTC in a paper wallet.

Only risky if someone gets your paper? Safer than any online wallet? These online wallets have zero repercussions for losing your money.

What's the downfall of locally as long as you keep a backup of the wallet?

Is there some attack vector through the litecoin wallet or just general normal computers with a trojan?
If it's possible for them to attack just because it's online, that's rubbish.

Well I meant from a completely secure aspect, but yeah stolen by any usual means, trojan, etc. I guess. Only say it because these online wallets have been done over a few times and there's literally no come back. I'd rather I was my own gatekeeper so to speak.

You get hardware dongle wallets, maybe that would be a good solution.

If you don't trade often could you not backup your local litecoin wallet and then encrypt the backup and then remove the wallet from the system.
That way even if it was hacked the only way to get to it was via an encrypted version
