I hate being thrown in a match half way through, so if that happens i usually just spectate till it kicks me an OMG some of the camping is just 
I saw one guy just sit inbetween two rocks, right in the corner, in the cave on Afghan waiting for people to run in. The funny thing was he sat there for about 2 minutes then someone ran in and took him down before he got any kills 
As for wasteland, i actually find the best tactic is to runaround like a loony on that. Especially if the other team are intent ongoing into that middle bunker. I just find which side they are trying to get in from and run around the back and shoot them all while they are focusing on the rest of my team in the bunker. Easy kills 
Its why i love maps like scrapyard and rust, its just an all out dogfight with bullets flying everywhere

Seems to do it a lot recently as well, like 80% of the time it will just throw me in when theres already helicopters flying about.
I'm like you tom, if its a map i like i probably stay, if not i just watch the camping fuckers and get angry and glad im not on their team.
When i joined your session the other day Tom i was watching you for a bit at the start

In future when inviting someone that is in a Game already, change the message subject to e.g Join CS Party rather than Re:Modern Warfare 2.
This way you will know that the party is waiting for you, rather than it being an invite to join the match, which you can join any time
