Probably an inlet manifold, goof for 20+bhp. Look at lexmaul, mantzel powerbox and velos torq tube. Costs from £400 to about £575

Would be talking a lot of money. If you took it to somewhere like courtenay sport they will charge you a few grand for it! Not to mention the insurance. So no, it wouldn't be easier to drop in a turbo lump. The turbo engine would come from a cav or calibra. I am not sure if these cars have 6 gears. If not you would have to pay a good few hundred for the 6 speed box.

you may get more power gains with a turbo but you will spend a lot more and it will be less reliable and you may need to uprate the internals.

the gearbox for the C20LET is an F28 which has 6 gears but i think you can use an F20 but not sure on that which is a 5 gear

yes u can use a F20 box with the turbo lump which save u alot of money on parts as its not a basic fit like the F20

And a turbo engine conversion would be cheaper?

C20LET + F28 gearbox and fitted will cost 2.5k+, but places like courtny will charge 5k!!! lol

Turboing a gsi is unreliable, and costs 3k. u get about the same bhp as TBs, but u get alot more tourqe

TBs are very reliable, SBD jobbies cost about 2k, fitting depends on weather u do it ur self, get a mate or a garage to do it

Then u got the powerbox's e.g. velos, manzal, lexmaul - around 400-550, fitting again depends on weather u do it ur self, a mate or a garage

Miles - how much BHP does the 2.0 8v have. and how much for a conversion?

If you can fit stuff yourself for the same price as a conversion you can get the same BHP as a C20XE.
You need a mentel power box,Get rid of the whole standard exhaust system and get a lexmaul manifold,De-cat pipe and group A centre and back box, An adjustable fuel pressure regulator, At least stage 2 head work and a superchip to put the rev limiter up to about 7500RPM. And if you have any spare cash an oil cooler is worth the money.

2.0 8v's have 115 or 130bhp.

You can buy a whole cavalier with one of those engines in for about £100, then you have the brakes and other bits to sell as well.....

Fitting, depends who does it, engine mounts are cheap I believe and you could probably use standard shafts.... or might need to change the hubs I think....

yea ive heard a lot about these inlet manifolds and the amount of power and torque they can free up is Mad!!! coudnt believe how restricted these engines were!

ive been thinking of getting a inlet manifold for my gsi,and correct me if im wrong guys but i reckon the mantzel powerbox is the best so far, only thing stopping me is the insurance! what they gonna say when i tell em my cars got another 20BHP under the bonnet! how much more will the premium go up by u reckon???

yer u can tune a gsi to around 150bhp for the price of a 2.0 conversion, but u will get nowhere near the tourqe that the 2.0 produces, and tourqe as we all know well is the key to speed

err... straying from the subject a bit?

All this guy wants is to free up some power - a cheap way of doing this is to get one of these inlet mainfolds, listed above...

they're pretty cheap £300-£500

and taking your gsi to say 126ish bhp aint bad for only £300 quid.

The guy that keeps just saying 'it'd be cheaper to chuck a turbo in' - what the F*ck?

looking at what £3000 ... then insurance on top.

Not everyone has that much money, this guy just wants a cheap way to get a bit more performance thats all!

to gain more power foller these steps:-
1, get ur new coilovers
2, give old ones to me
3, my car will be drivable again above 40mph an will go straight when i brake!
4, buy a new inlet, tbs etc!
lol :-)
seriously tho it all depends on ur budget dont it, i mean if u have 1.5K get a 2ltr if u only want an extra few bhp get a new zorst, maily for noise! and get a new inlet, then try a exhaust manifold an de-cat and then uni chip with raised limit
