Like i said before, too many short journeys. Do you have white creamy gunk on your dipstick? I expect that if its not heating up, you will have condensation in your sump.

70 x 1 mile journeys for £10 is actually quite good. The engine will never get anywhere near warm so the thermostat will have no bearing.

Reset the ecu, there is nothing on the standard management that can actually be adjusted or 'tuned'. If its a good one you might be looking at about 100bhp.

Miles, nope, not sure, the bloke didn't really go into detail, but it wasn't an expensive job.
Engine used to be superb. 435miles on 1 tank of petrol. Could have done a few more as well. It ran great, then it just started getting worse and worse, down to like 250-300 miles.

The only way I can think that the valves could 'drop' is for the cam timing to be out, that would make the valves get close to pistons....
Other than that it would have to be slack valve springs or something which would be a head off and rebuild job.

Think he did take the head off and had to do something. Didn't know the cam timing could go off on these engines? Ahh well, nae fussed anyway, i sold the engine, he fitted it, then sold the car
