how much am i looking at including the engine?
also, i hear they can be tuned pretty well with the right amount of cash invested, is this true?

the non-ecotec 1.6 16v lump is particularly tuneable yes
simple enough process, just need new engine mounts, driveshafts etc
bigger brakes also adviseable

Think you can get it done for bout £700 all in engine fitted and runnin cos u can use the engine mounts from a corsa 1.2 its just the wirin loom key and transponer to make it start and some one to put it all in and connect the wirin up. Also the 1.6 engine is really good for tuning several people on here have tuned a 1.6 with great response

speak to lee mitchell - think hes got a gsi engine in at the mo - I was gonna have it done by him but waiting for a few more months - cause it'll save me about £500 in the space of 4 months by waiting

labour on fitting is around the 500 mark
takes about 24-48hours
engines TOP money is 400 (i sold mine 33k out of a 2000 corsa for that)
so a relistic price all in engine and fitting is about 1k

Miles has around 199BHP from his C16XE he can beat a standard Cossie up the quarter mile!!!!
SBD have got well over 250BHP from these engines, if ya got the cash you can have the power, forget power boxes get throttle bodies or you will regret it like i do

Well if its £1000 for a 1.6 16v, wouldnt it just be a better idea to go for a 2.0 16v for £1500.

The implication here is that the Ecotec (X16XE) version is not particularly tuneable - WRONG. I have 215bhp from my 1.6 Ecotec with more to come. Swindon Racing use the X16XE for their super 1600 Corsa - they have 220bhp without throttle bodies

but if ya did the same mods to a C16XE it would have more power, yes they are tunable but the C16XE always gains more power than the X16XE due to the little differences

only if he has put bigger valves in cos the C16XE has bigger valves on one side its either the inlet or exhaust valves that are different i carnt remember, i was gonna say exactly what you said mark yeah eventually you will reach a stage when there aint any thing in it but for the person who want good power gains but dont wanna spend £1000's the C16XE is the obvious choice

yeah the c16xe engine is the 1.6 to go for end of the day. the cams are slightly different too, the exhaust ones are slightly wilder(!!!)

Yeah i heard ya mention that before and didnt know that, have ya got C16XE cam fitted into ya motor yet if so what poer did ya gain was it noticable, oh and can i trust Jam Sport to fit a Chip, they say to fit it and set it up will take 8 hours £50 an hour on the RR £450+vat all together is that good or shall i take it Graham Goode

well throttle bodies on a 1.6 will be about 2100 from velos and gives 160bhp at flywheel.

what chip u getting a unichip? they no there stuff with cossies and that, just make sure u stay there with the car they are good lads. pay cash aswell theyll do it loads cheaper on the laybor. not got the cams in my car yet, will have them done within a week and on the rollers. try northampton motorsport aswell mate, they are good

Once, you've ditched the EGR crap and flowed the head (a good starting point in any 1.6 tuning), the differences are very minimal - it's true the C16XE does have slightly larger valves, but this makes little if any difference to the performance. When I was talking to the engineer at Swindon Racing at AutoSport yesterday, he explained that providing the exhaust manifold/ports have been sorted, there's no benefit in going for bigger valves - they use standard size valves on their X16XE (which BTW produced 248bhp when they ran it on TBs). Yes, out of the box and unmodified, the C16XE does make a tiny bit more power, but finding a good example is getting very difficult these days. I'd rather start with a low mileage X16XE than a long in the tooth C16XE
