we wanna try and stick with BT if poss but if worth comes when we'll have to change, just means they will have to get a cable in as there not allowed to use the BT lines - big court case apparently lol

BT do fixed IP deals - several of our clients have them.
What sort of conenction are you using? LL, xDSL?

Think it's optional TBH, most I've seen just have a package as Business 500 with fixed IP.
I'd give your account manager a bell and ask because I don't think they charge much extra to add it on (assuming they don't have to fanny about with your home gateway and that)

Hmmn... using actual RAS servers at either end, or VPN hardware on the other side of your DSL routers? Terminal Services a consideration?

If one of my office servers was running Remote Access Server (RAS)
What software if any would i need to connect from a windows PC at home?
Or is there a application the server will deploy for this use?
Is this where the application Access comes in?

Riiiight, depends how you want to play it really.
In the simplest sense you can have a Win2000 Server with Terminal Services installed, a licensing server setup and a way of getting to the server (VPN via the DSL I'd imagine).
You can set Terminal Services in Application Mode so users can login to it adn run applications remotely. By default TS is in Remote Administration mode - thats fine if thats all you want to do...
Assuming the remote access has been setup and the server has a static IP then all you need at the client end is internet access and either the Terminal Services Client or Remote Desktop Connection (on XP). Stick in the IP, login and away you go

Or you could buy a router that supports multiple VPNs, something like the Draytek Vigor2600 series......go for the 2600We, and you get Wireless functionality for your internal network aswell!
My suggestion for ADSL ISPs: Zen Internet (biased, I work for them), Nildram (my connection was with these, before I started working for Zen), or Eclipse (heard good reports about them, from many sources).

I have a static IP with Nildram. Free with my connection but its 3 quid more pm now.
