have put sub in and amp but i get a random growl from the sub when i skip tracks or eject cd's ect. is this ok?

sounds like a grounding problem mate. Make sure you have clean connections. This happened to me, someone told me it was to do with the ground but i thought mine was fine - took it off, cleaned the metal more and it solved it.
