hi
today i fitted a sebring oval back box and the center section that removes the silencer in the middle.
it sounds nice as anything but when you reach about 3.500 revs i get a noise like its hitting against something, not hard but fast. i got my mate to drive it hard down the road and i could hear this noise after the car left my sight..............
i have cut away and bigger hole in the bumper, all joints and tight and sealed.
what the hell is it then? have any of you lot had anything like this?
does it just need running in????
i know tomcorsa has the same and it dont seem to make this noise........

Do you mean it sounds raspy?
Let me guess your car is 16v? - welcome to the world of 16v raspy ness on full systems
Mine's very raspy when cold! - gets a bit better when u warm it up, but high up in the rpm you can hear it.

i had the same exhaust system on my old corsa, only thing i can think of is...... when ya start ya car up, as the exhaust warms up it expands about a cm with heat and its maybe rubbin on something as soon as its expanded a bit

probably is knocking against the chassis or rear axle. crawl underneath, wobble it and see if it is anywhere near touching the bodywork, if it is twist it a little.

Not had a problem with mine, except the whole thing seemed about two inches too far back, had to cut some off the front section to get it fitting nicely...

This system is well loud though at first I didn't like it - but love it now, just cruising at 30 mph I get people turning around and looking...
probably saying 'boy racer - twat' - to which I respond by booting it in 2nd to prove em right

thats caused by the clamp between back box and centre pipe being the wrong way round or of the fat variety.
Get ureslf a skinny one and face it so that the bolt is upwards, not below. Harder to do up but wont knock.

the knocking on the axle can be fixed quite easily, you need to rotate the pipe that joins the straight through centre section to the back box as it curves over the axle, you will understandd if you look at it, just a matter of unbolting and twisting then bolting up again.

right, i had it up on axle stands afterthe first blast and looked all under it. so it had had time to heat up but it still isnt touching anything!
the sound is like a bit of metal being blown by the exhaust, like a clicking is the best way of describing it. but it sounds more than the exhaust note......
i am going to ring sebring now and have a chat.
will let you know what they say
cheers guys
