Author problems with rear hubs

one side of my rear hubs has been worn out i need to replace it- my mechanic told me i need to chande them cause the thread that holds the hubs has worn out -and my car is running on dot 5 brake fluid.
just wondering if anyone knows if the thread is in the hub unit or is attached to the axle?

on the hub unit. it just all bolts to the rear beam
