Just been quoted £400 for changin the clutch in my 96 16v Sport, I understand from Haynes that its a dropping the g/box job - anyone done this? How difficult is it? Local garage reckons about £50 labor, but dont think he's bargained on droppin the g/box!
It would "only" have been £200 from vaux if it had a cover plate where could slide clutch out like a 8valver!!

8v sri should only be a 45 minute job, its the 1.6 16v which takes the time as it uses a pot type flywheel. on the 8v the gearbox doesnt need to be taken off.

fuck me man, if you can get the box out in that time you must be a fucking genius cos im pretty sure the vaux book time on it is something like 6 hours.

dropping the box out is a prick of a job cos the ecotec engine is shite and big and the engine bay is fucking tiny. took me and a mate pretty much a whole saturday afternoon to get it out and a sunday morning to put it back in. mind you, that was while smoking fags, drinking tea, and eating bacon sarnies
