right.....

rebuilding one of my c20's

I have all 4 pistons needing a good clean.

I've tried Mr muscle cleaner, put it doesnt seem to want to get it all off?

Im using a plastic bristle brush...

whats the best substance, and implement, to clean them with?

carb cleaner?
£4 spray tin should do the trick will take some time

Carb cleaner or some sort of ceramic cleaner

Soak them in a bit of petrol first to loosen any muck, then try something like Staybrite cleaner for halogen glass cookers... Its like an abrasive paste, but doesnt contain any nasty corrosive ingredients.

Maybe a scouring pad too?

soak then i diesel mate itl losen the stuff off then jus scrape it off with a blunt knife will jus fall off easy job

Like the man said, Diesel, best stuff by far, of course avoid skin contact, worst stuff for dermititis, I can vouch for that use to bathe in the stuff rebuilding Perkins Diesels for trucks and boats.

Short fo that, use White Spirit or thinners, but neither as good as derv. Instead of a bristle brush, you can use a brillo with moderate pressure.
