My 1.4 16v brake pedal is feeling odd. Brakes work fine but only when pedal is pressed as far down as pos. Only been doing this past couple of months. Pads and disks are fine as are the drums. Local garage tried to change fluid but said rear nipples were seized on and so could'nt change the fluid at the rear. Any ideas as to why my brake pedal is so odd?

Cheers

becuse ya probably got air in the system, gives a spongey feel to the pedal and the brakes dont work till the pedal is depressed loads. The corsa braking system has to be bled in diagonal circuits, front left rear right etc, if ya canr bleed the rears its a big problem. i changed over to V6 brakes and calipers, i bled the system myself and it was a night mare too hours and many bottles of fluid just to get the tinyest bits of air out. If its not air in the system it could be ya master cylinder, most tyre brake places will check em for free for you, BUT brake fluid needs changing, its a servicable item that you cannot change due to ya bleed nipple problem

The local garage (who are good) said it would be £80 to change the nipples and then bleed and change the fluid. Do you think this is a good price? I dont really like messing around with brake fluid, i always spill it everywhere!

Dont think it will be master cylinder as the car not that old, V - reg.

nipples seezed? blur......... get a vice grips and lock it onto them and u will be able to open them.

or ya could just buy some new brake cylinders. I went to replace mine cylinders at the weekend i i could not get the cnuting thing off there is no room to get a spanner onto the bolt that hold them on. there must be an extra small spanner to get them off. eventually i just transfeered all the bit out of the new cyclinder onto the old ones.

or plan 3 take it to the garage

£80 seems a little much but i personally HATE bleeding brakes with a passion, i remember being up at 2 inthe morning bleeding brakes with my mum helping cos i gotta go work in the morning then test driving it down me street to find i still have no brakes and end up on the pavment on the otherside of the junction. Its up to you if ya do it, i must admit im gettin better at it but its one of them things that can go right or go really wrong

Yeah, i do agree about the b*ll ache of changing fluid. It makes it loads easier for me when my drive is made of bloody pebbles, trying to jack it up and get under the car!

lol, the drive goes down and the car stays where it is what a nightmare, well if ya get the fluid changed and its still not right i dunno what to suggest, maybe perished hoses but your cars a v-reg, just chuck some stainless steel ones on for good mesure

I'll have to book it in for weekend then. New hoses would look nice, but i'd have to get a nice koni kit to match!!

Cheers for the advice
