Hey guys. What are the advantages of upgrading the gear box on a corsa 1.2?? Is it worth it? How about clutch? whats the point?
Whats involved in upping the rev limiter?
I need answers to these cquestions because 7000rpm is no way near enough.
Thanks

The ratios are chosen to work best with the power available. Change the engine first.

No advantage of upgrading the gearbox on a 1.2, unless you want to pay over a grand for a quaife gearset to save a few bhp through the transmission losses.
No point in raising the rev limit unless you have the mods to give power up there.
The gearbox should be fine with increased revs, the clutch definatly will be, its torque that kills these things, not revs.

why bother? because if you have a 4 speed its revving its nuts off on the motorway
but if you have 5 it isnt

Well without any critisism from you all. Here is the problem.
No insurance companys will touch me after i wrote off 6g's worth of car. So its very unpracticle for my to get a faster engine that what i alreaady have. So I added some Nitrous to the mix with 35bhp jets.
Obviously the car is still slow and a 1.2 but with the nitrous it does change up through the gears at an incredible rate. So im neededing to buy a new clutch and somehow up my rev limiter.
I dont want to hear crap about it blowing up my engine. Ive read alot into it researched about how much power i can add "safely". If anyone disagree's please go and read all the info they can at www.nitrous.info.
So whats ur thoughts guys...how can i go about upping my rev limiter? what new clutch to go for?

I wrote off 5.5g's worth of car and i'm 19 in a shitty postcode and its made a negligible difference to my insurance.

I still wouldn't bother upping the limiter unless you want to hear it go bang.

Adding power is different to adding revs.
You need some sort of chip as the rev limit is set by the ecu.
Is your current clutch shot or do you just want to uprate it?

You go no faster in 5th than in 4th with this gearbox on the 1.2, but granted, revs will be lower.
