if you drop it out the bottom it will come out with the GB attached

if yer taking just the engine out.. take it out from above cos with the gearbox still in place the drives shafts and all that crap with be in the way so ya cant drop it.

It's possible to take it out from the top leaving the 'box in the car, yes.

the haynes says it would easyer to get it out in one piece but it doesnt say i cant do it.

the hard part is gonna be getting it back in......
