Depends who you get it from. If you want a cheap 1.6 block then get a old nova one, then provided it doesn't have a C stamped in it you can claim the engine is a modified nova engine, and no CAT test then.

i sold a c16xe block,head with all internals, alternator/starter, but no manifoilds or ancillaries for £180.
that was with low compression on cylinder4, but it was being re-built with new bore and pistons, plus headwork with all new valvetrain etc, so the new owner wasn't bothered about the low compression.
i think you'd struggle to find someone selling one stripped to just the bare block and head with no internals. so may need to buy a built up one.

any idea roughly if vaux sell blocks on there own with no other parts?? how much??
still lookin at costs, willing to spend about £300 on block & head if I can find any

build up a new engine as a project & then just swap it over for my current X16XE in the corsa
just something I can do at nights & not have to worry about length of time the gsi would be off the road.

sounds like a good idea, i got all the stuff when i bought my engine, block, head, pistons, pretty much everything needed to build up the engine, but all in bits

might as well buy a complete engine matey, then ya always got spares, vauxhall will charge more for the block than a complete second hand engine, ya want a crank for sure these are like £400+ brank new, and £1000's for performance items, nothing wrong with standard crank up to 8000rpm
