Firstly i would take a trip to Vauxhall and buy a new gasket for £1.37, when ever you remove the EGR valve your ment to fit a new one anyway...

Ones ive got this and a can of Tango that i have just finished off, cut the can open so you have flat sheet of metal..

after doing this get the new gasket you have bought and draw around it on the metal sheet you have

Make sure you draw where the holes need to be aswell.. You actually need to make two gaskets one with a hole in the middle and one with no hole at all the one with the hole left in is to allow the valve to still move..

Once this is done you should be left with two pieces of metal that are the same shape as the gasket only blank...

Now to cutting out the holes, this bit is tricky, you cant really use a drill cause the metal is to thin and it shreads as i found out I ended up using a craft knife and cutting very carefully around the holes..

Finally you should be left with two new plates like the ones shown below..

You fit these with the original gasket on the valve then the plate iwth the hole in the midle and then the plate that is blank sitting on the inlet..Probably a good idea to use a bit of gasket sealer aswell when refitting...

can you blanking plates for the 1.7TD izusu engine?

my step dad has an astra estate, the engine management light keeps coming on quite randomly and when it does the thing will barely accelerate (and i mean really barely, foot to the floor and its going no where), then it'll go off randomly and it'll be fine, think he's had it checked and recommended a new EGR valve but blanking it would be better? does blanking it make the management light stay on?
