Have just bought one to connect my laptop to the tv...but does the cable transfer sound or is it just the visuals?

Just visuals i'd imagine, not 100% though. Sound would come from the sound card, and will need a seperate lead to transfer the sound

yep it is just visuals.
you want a cheapo microphone (each end) style cable. shouldnt be anymore than 99p from anywhere.
just plug that from the green speaker port on the laptop to the input sound port on the TV (it will have one if you can connect vga to it)
