I have recently purchased a new pc, and need to sell my old one, however i have loads of tunes, vids etc etc i need to wipe off it, and basicly want it to be like a new pc for whoever buys it...
i have a legit copy of xp that i am trying to reload, however as it is a couple of yrs old the edition on there now with updates is newer, and when you boot up the disc is says the version already on the pc is newer reboot the disc and just keeps coming up with this message...
Any ideas how to wipe pc clean and reinstall xp?????
cheers

You should be able to boot to XP CD and delete/recreate the partition. That would leave you with a fresh install with nothing on the drive unless whoever buys it tries very hard to get your stuff back.

Yeah although the boot sequence will need to be right. Thats the list of places it will try and boot from, and CD drive must be before hard drive for it to try that first.
Change it in the BIOS if you need to.

Ok i pressed f8 and changed it to boot from cd, went through the notions of reinstalling xp from the disc. It then did the insatallition timer bar, then once complete turned itself off, now when you turn it on it comes up with:
No boot device detected:system halted.
Then when you press f8 or f12 to select what to boot from there is nothing to select.
Any ideas whats up? do i need to reinstall drivers? i have disc for this, if so how?
I cant even boot the pc up now!!
I am useless at this pc lark, any help much apprecited....

did you change your boot sequence in Bios?
If it says no boot device detected, then it is not detecting the hdd...
BTW can you give your pc specifications...

Not 100% sure on spec, its 40 gig hd, and pentium 4, not sure on processor speed, its a dell system.
cheers for your help....
