I wrote a few paragraphs in general chat, but Mav scrapped it! Its for a mates dads company and it has all their accounts on it, so i need it done asap!!
The system finds the drive, but then stops when verifying DMI data pool.

Indeed, as would I if he hadn't have done it already. Posting in the wrong section shows a lack of awareness for whats going on, posting and saying you don't care its wrong shows a complete contempt for it.
Anyway, this drive, its freezing at that stage?

yup, thas it, i decided after 15 minutes of waiting that it wasn;'t gonna do anything.
Tried it as primary master, secondary master, primary slave, etc etc. I know it shouldn't really make much difference. But i'm out of ideas.
I've been using the "disk upgrade" feature on Norton Ghost 9.0.
Appologies about posting in wrong section, but I didn't think I'd get a response by posting in here.
Cheers for that!

to follow up...
the original drives needs replacing as it blue screens (WINDOWS 98 SE!!) when drive tries to write data to the HDD, but seems to read data fine. As the data all seems to have copied ok, I tried just reinstalling the OS, but there doesn't seem to be a repair function on the 98 CD-ROM, and safe mode won't work either

yeah i can do, but i've just been reading other forums (sorry!) and a lot of people have had the same problem with ghost 9.0. I'm just trying to do the same thing with Maxtors own utility. I'll report back with results.
The drive I'm copying to is a brand new Maxtor IDE 80GB thing. Took it out of the anti-static this afternoon.
I guess it could be the board, but the drive works fine as a slave?
