How would I overcome the following situation?
I buy an LCD TV with 1 x Component input. However I have 2 items that I would like to connect to Component. The Denon DVD player and the 360.
How would I go about this? Is there an adapter I can buy? Or would I have to disconnect each time I used one or the other?

Are you on about plugging in multiple scart cables? If so you can buy adaptors.

make sure you buy a hd ready tv then connect your 360 via hdmi and your dvd player via components

would only be using the scart inputs for Sky+ Marc.
How much are the HDMI cables for the 360 Demo? Do they provide as good a picture when compared to component?

i bought a vga cable for my 360 cos gay microsoft dont make a hdmi one. so i then had to buy a convertor off ebay for about £2 to connect it all up.
the picture quality is absolutely incredible. from what ive heard the hdmi picture is better than the component one because only hdmi gives a true digital signal.
but i havent got components on my hd tv so i couldnt tell you, but thats just what ive read on the web

thanks for the info mate. Much appreciated.
Only reason I need them connected up at the same time is because I have the sound from the 360 games coming through the surround setup via an optical cable.
HDMI is a must so it seems for me then

it'll be very hard to see the differance between component and HDMI, though Demo - VGA is analog, so i dont understand how you have a digital connection to your screen? And if your using a converter then it would be a worse image than using component
At the moment, there isnt a digital video output from the 360 - component is your best option! You can buy component switch boxes though, but persoanlly get a decent AV amp that supports component and you'll beable to switch etc
edit - just looked on ebay and you can get a component to DVI converter for about 10 quid. Still, your using a analog source!

so there's no way I'm going to have 2 component sources plugged in at the same time unless I purchase an AV amp?

no you can get a component switcher - google it or look on maplin's/ebay etc but the best way about it, is to get an AV amp as you can then patch multiple compnent and other video sources to a component input on the telly etc

Does the tv have vga?
If it does just use that for the 360.
And as dom said thats a bit of a backward way to connect up the 360 demo and it defo won't be giving you the best picture quality.

I need both in (and working) at the same time. I use my surround sound when playing 360 games.
I don't think they have VGA inputs. Might have to look into the amp but really don't want another piece of kit sitting under the telly Sky+, 360 and DVD player already

good point there dom. like i said i was only saying the difference that other people had said about.
my vga lead is hooked up to the 360 via a hdmi adaptor so it goes:
360 --> vga cable --> vga-hdmi adaptor --> hdmi socket on hdtv
i think i may get a component to hdmi adaptor and see if i notice any difference in quality when compared to the vga adaptor.
for the sake of probably less than a fiver it will be worth a look

The vga using a dvi converter will be just as good if not better than component.
I woudln't waste a fiver.
I've miss-read somewhere and got it in my head you were somehow converting componento vga then hdmi.
Does the tv not have a vga input though?
If it does use that.

tbh, no point using an analog source then converting it to HDMI. Just stick to an analog input like John said use the vga port if you have one - saying that, a lot of new plasmas/lcds are coming with DVI sockets rather than vga.

I assumed it had a vga instead of dvi beacuse of hdmi.
Most tv's atm don't have 2 digital ones although they should be starting now.

anyway, its shit hot and im happy with it

the Bravia doesn't come with VGA or DVI. Just one component and 1 HDMI.
I use an optical cable to get the sound from the 360 to the surround sound. When I want to watch a movie though it looks like I'll have to just swap the cables around. Should be easy enough to get round the back of the telly.

also John, is there anything I can do when I set up the TV to get the best possible picture quality? Brightness/contrast/backlight settings?
How would you suggest I hook up the Sky+ also? HDMI?
Cheers

I would use hdmi for sky+ if it has it yip.
Settings are personal preference really but you get dvd's that allow you to set the tv up technically correctly.
