normally i wouldnt worry too much about my car smoking abit as its just normal for the engine................ but........................... at the weekend i asked my gf to move my car for me and as she was doin it i told her to give it a few revs so i could hear what my new exhaust sounds like from outside the car. she didnt even rev it hard and it puffed out what to me looked like 'black' smoke. ive neva noticed this before! ive only ever noticed slight blue smoke at high engine revs.
........................ is this normal and what could be causing it?
piston rings?
valve stem seals?
breathers?
cheers

useing quite abit of oil .. either valve stem seals or piston rings/worn bores normally .. you have to take the head off to change the rings so you may aswell get the stem seals changed while the head is off .. or just keep topping it up with oil .. re-builds can get quite expensive

Well you said you sometimes have blue smoke, so I'm guessing your piston rings are shot mate

I used a litre a week in mine, did a compression test and turned out it was the rings, so i sold it!
I just kept topping it up, it drove fine, but you couldn't see smoke in the day time at all, only at night when a car was behind with its lights on.
