What oil are you using? maybe its the wrong / poor quality oil thats causing the problem, you did say it happened after an oil change.
Abit of a silly question but have you made sure the oil filter is on properly?

the oil change was done by the garage its going to tomorrow, hes the usual garage man for us, not some random garage (not that this makes him reliable, but dont usually have problems with him/his work)
im using 15W-40 GTX magnatec oil (said this was right in the halfords booklet thingy when i looked)
and i dont know about the oil filter, im not too good with engines

timing belts and drive chain being replaced/sorted/what ever
will this affect the oil consumption by any chance? (affect it as in reduce the amount used)

15w40 is thicker than 10w40. 15w40 is ok on older/high milage cars as it stops them rattling(tappets) at idle
the vx 10w40 is thin anyway it comes out more like 5w40

timing chains are common on 1.0 and 1.2 corsa b & c's. sometimes noisy on idle, mostly when being revved. this is due to elongation in the links in the drive chain. on corsa c's 53 plate onwards, vauxhall have recalled about 100,000 corsas to have new timing chain kits on, quite an easy job though.
