drivin home from work 2nite, i put the car in first gear at the lights when i pulled away it seemed like it was in 3rd coz of the speed and it almost stalled. then i try to put it in second and it acts as if the car is in 4th, again coz it is goin really slow. then later on i can only put it in 3rd, 4th and 5th. No matter how far to the left i put the gearstick it only goes into 3rd and 4th, then i put it in3rd were it would usually be but it is the same gear as when the gearstick was in 1st.
is the gearbox completly fcuked or is there anything i can check before buying a new one?
sorry if its hard to understand, but it was just really strange
any help would be great

gear linkage has slipped, needs adjusting.
get a haynes manual and do it, wont take long.

no, all thats happened, by the sounds of it, it the bolt has come loose, and its turned slightly.
you'll see what i mean when you look at it, its fairly simple, but you'll need haynes t tell you exactly how
