hello,
i shall be fitting the c20xe engine to a 1.2 corsa ls, i plan on putting on 13"x9" wheels on the back and 13"x8" 's on the front. this however proves difficult as i'm told the brakes i need to stop the car are toooo big to go under 13" wheels.

if this is due to weight, then i might be ok as im stripping out the interior completely and leightening other areas.

if its down to speed, it's ok as i don't plan on breaking any speed limits just acceleration .

please let me know how i can get round this, preferably without changing the wheels.

thanks in advance,
felix.

maybe use the normal corsa brakes, but uprate the discs/pads and use a rear disc setup with uprated pads/discs?

you have 2 options. stick with the 13's and the shocking brakes and be prepared to end up in a field upside down, or go for some 14's so you can just about fit a 2.0 setup

1.2 brakes a poop.

I thought my 1.6 brakes were poop also.

Don't be daft and get bigger brakes. As said above, you'll probably end up through a hedge or killing someone.

your 1200cc brakes will overheat within seconds of breaking at speeds higher than 70

my old 1200 used to do 90mph tops and on the rare occasion that i got to top speed if i braked hard my brakes would overheat and be as much use as a chocolate fire guard

I'm going with 14s on mine which will just squeeze 256mm brakes under. Some decent pads and discs and they should be spot on.

Its what Astra GTEs came with as standard so they're meant for a C20XE.

no! they are solid discs, like has been said, they will overheat very quickly and will fade like crazy

rear disks i wouldnt make that much of a differnece with standard fronts as most of the braking is done at the front.
I would rather spend the money on the wheels and have some trust worthy brakes.
BTW what wheels are you looking at getting as there seems to be a big hike in price for an extra inch

why don't you go for some 15" tigger rims? they're aluminium so not heavy.

plus, surely it aint gonna handle very well on little rims?

if your e going to stay small, you will need to go for 236mm vented disks and four pots or similr You dont need any more breaking, its just heat dissipation thats an issue with vauxhalls shite sliding caliper arrangement. Also rig up some ducts ont to disk vents.

right, to answer a few questions

the reason price is so different:
13" - weller steel wheels
14" - schmidt th split rims
this is due to the width needed for the euro look, 9" at back 8" up front

the reason i can't have 15's:
the are too big to lower and tyre stretch.

thirdly:
is it true that 236mm vented discs will fit under 13" wheels? i do want safety, but i will rarely be going over 70mph so stopping at great speeds is not an issue.

hope you can carry on giving me info and support
best regards,
felix.

15" wheels + 165/50 15 tyres = stretch, bigger brakes, and still very euro

Rarely is not never.

You'll be able to get something under there, just make sure its better than standard spec for cars that came with 13s.

my intention was never to keep the brakes standard underneath the 13's i just want the best brakes posible to under 13's.

the reason i want 13's is that i want this car to be super low and really wide.

oh and could someone dig out a link to the 4 pot calipers i would need for a set of 236mm vented discs please.

thanks again everyone, best regards,
felix.
