ok on my BT router it says im connected at 7360 kbps but when i download the maximum speed i can get is about 25 - 30 kb/s.

i have 3 computers on my network.

ADSL LINE >> ROUTER >> COMP (downloads at 30kb/s)
ADSL LINE >> ROUTER >> HUB >> 3 COMPS (downloading at 30kb/s)

what could be causing this crap download speed.

The 7,360Kbps will be your sync-speed (signal between your router and the line-card at the exchange), your actual connection-speed will likely be different from this.

Easiest way to check is, assuming you can get it working (there've been problems reported with the new version), to change your username to the BT test-login and run a speed-test on their tester-site (ie. bypass your ISP's network completely) - instructions here

Make sure you run that test from the master-socket, with ALL other equipment (telephones, faxes, Sky+, etc) unplugged from all telephone points.

Oh, and why use a hub instead of a switch? Packet-collision-tastic with a hub, which "may" be slowing things down slightly for those 3 computers behind it...

Erm yes why indeed..

The Router is ment to ROUTE..

Like he says, your max speed is 7360 thats what you are connected at the exchange at 7.5mbps.

The fall off (line degredation and attenuation) will cause the speed to filter out to a lower speed the further from the exchange you are.

30kbps sounds a little extreme tho.

What you need to do unplug the routers..

Go to the master telephone socket, take the lower fascia off and use the master socket on this.

Plug in the micro filter and try again to see if you get better speeds.

If you get better speeds you have a problem with internal wiring in your house

Off topic but what is the purpose of the hub in your network? Doesnt the router have 4 ports?
