ok guys, just done paperclip test and read the code as 1-4-10-5 (translated as didnt realise the 10 = 0) which was:-
1405 - Exhaust Gas Re-circulation (EGR) valve
what is this - where do i find it and how do i fix it?!

But its not going to affect the performance of your car as all it does is reduce emissions.
I think this is the case but hopefully someone can back me up on this !

wel there must be something wrong with it as the little orange lite came on on the dash n gave m,e that code when did the paperclip test?? not sure to be honest!!

will it not?! thats ok then so if i drove arond with it the way it is it wouldnt do much damage and there is no chance of it blowing up - as u can tel very little knowledge of engines here!!

i had mine done afew months back, got it from vauxhall ( ) and it cost me £117+VAT. on ebay you can get them much cheaper. my mate whos the mechanic that did it for me said it was abit of a pain to do too. when mine went though the car would struggle/not turn over at all etc

yeah my 1.6 use to move like a slug when the Engine Management Light was on cause of the EGR valve.
Apparently its a common fault and u can get it blanked off as well instead of changing it

have a second hand one mate for your engine, fitted it to a 1400 16v, then ripped the engine out so it was hardly used, let me know if you want it

It's a pain in the **** to undo the EGR valve :-( It's located on the lower inlet manifold (as illustrated in the first picture) and not easy to get to.
I took some extra pictures to help people when they have to remove the EGR. Here's a closer look. You have to use a torx-bit to undo the bolts.

You can get a Vauxhall/GM blanking gasket.
