driving to work this morning and all of a sudden i relise that my temp clock is half way between 50c and 100c then i noticed that it was creeping up (while i was stuck in traffic) luckily i got to work though before it got to the red.
then when i ws driving home exactly the same happend - relised the water coolant was running low - filled it up and now it is still over heating.
if any1 could help that would be ace...!

as long as the fan kicks in its ok?
i usually get stuck in a jam on way home for 30min or so, mine always goes up just before 100 and then cools down and goes back to the bottom when i get goin

no i dont think ive ever noticed the fan on.
there was noises from the engine when i was driving as well.
i tried opening the water coolant container after been running to put more water in and the water already inside started violently bubbling! not sure if that was from the pressure or if it was boiling

my fan kicks in over 100  u will hear it kick in just around this temp, if it doesnt kick in then that explains the overheating.

yeah and if you need a quick fix, warm air blowing constantly
thatsll take some heat away from the engine

well stick your fan onto a manual switch and then you can turn it on / off at your own will!

Coolent system is presurised. You should read what it says on the cap before unscrewing it. You are lucky you didn't get an eyefull of boiling water there!
It's normal for old cars like Corsa's to go up to 100 degrees, the fan will then kick in and bring the temp back down to 90 degrees. So long as it cycles through like that you have nothing to worry about.
However, make sure you have some anti freeze in the system, don't top it up with plain water as it wont do your colling system much good.
Also, what was the state of your coolant? It might need a flush and some fresh stuff put back in - this should be done every year really when the car is serviced

If your fan isn't kicking then, then the first thing to do is to check the fuse box for a blown fuse. Second thing to replace is the fan switch which is located on the thermostat in most cases.

I get this same problem in my 12v but the fan kicks in It only seems to happen in one place on my way to and from uni, other jams i get stuck in it doesn't - think it may have something to do with the incline that the traffic is normally on.
