It wouldnt surprise me at all.
There are rumours of full HDMI capable units being produced so I believe that rumour.

the current 360 can display 1080p who cares if its not hdmi, they may even bring out a hdmi cable for the current 360

lol I doubt it will make much difference. There are still lots of people sitting waiting for the PS3. If they did not buy a 360 already then IMO they won't due to that minor change. They will either go for the PS3 or stay with nothing. (For now)

like rob quads said it peobably wont make much difference to the amount of people wanting a ps3.
the people it will win over are the people sitting on the fence unsure which console they want
