Use Windows defender, not sure if it's built into Vista?

Also try AVG, should work with Vista

no, windows defender has actually been proven to be the worst EVER avg program, with a detection rate of below 50%.
I use AVG which seems to be fine.

Sorry I should have said used in conjunction with something else. Not on it's own. I wouldn't trust any Microsoft product to solely guard my PC.

if you want my opinion get rid of Norton, its the biggest pile of wank the world has ever known. personally i always use AVG but Avast is also supposed to be very good

also, AVG should work as long as you download the latest version, had afew problems updating on Vista from an older version i had on my pen drive
you can find the latest version here http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5
