I did that MAC thingy, but as soon as I go to turn security off it just takes aaaaaages to load then loses the network. Then I have to go & unplug my router &try it all again

So, looks like I can't use wifi until they sort out the issue with the WEP code?
Otherwise my cursed wireless network wont allow it

unplug router and you should have a little reset button on it, use a pen or something press that plug it back it, press it down again for 15odd seconds your router should now be back to how it was

Matt, delete the WEP code off the router for the moment and get it working with no security whatsoever. Then, enable the MAC filtering, but disable the security and it should work.

Thats what I tried doing, untick the wep box & tick "none". Then when I click apply it takes aaaages &Y stops working alltogether

im guessing the pc stops working when you do the above?
If so, then it'll be the computer trying to access the wireless connection with a WEP key and getting refused access to the router. Once you have disabled the WEP key (and mac filtering at first) you need to make sure under your computers wireless settings that anything related to using WEP/WPA security is turned OFF. That should do the trick.
Then like Dan said, apply mac filtering to your router instead
