Hey,
I have a 1l 12v, and the handling is very poor to say the least. I am thinking of lowering it 40mm; would this improve my handling any? Would I notice a big difference? Is it worth lowering just for the handling gains (if any)?
Also, how hard would they be too fit?
Thanks in advance everyone.

They are quite easy to fit, there are a few tutorials on here iirc.
I would presume it'll make handling better, as the centre of gravity will be lower, in other words, it won't be boaty.
I heard go any lower than -40mm on standard shocks and you sacrifice ride comfort.
Check that the insurance company will insure it first though, mine won't!

Hi Deno - long time
Yea, anymore than 40mm and I would need new shocks. I don't want to take it any lower than 40mm anyway.
For this year - my first year driving. I am insured under my Dads name, with Direct Line. I'm still paying £950 though. I'm not sure whether they would allow me to lower it or not. I guess I will never know if I don't ask.
Does anyone have experience with mods with Direct Line?
PS: Your car is looking lovely Deano

Cheers mate
Direct Line is effectively the same company as Churchill, and I don't think they allow mods

Don't think so - ring up, it's the only way to find out.
I just found this on their website:
Q. If I am 18 years old can I have modifications on my car?
A. If you are aged under 25 we would be unwilling to offer cover for a modified vehicle. This is based our previous risk experience.
As it's your dads policy, you might be lucky, but they probably won't allow it because of the named driver and realise what's happening.

Yea, I had a feeling that was going to happen. I'll maybe phone up sometime.
Can anyone give me some information on lowering, which I asked in the first post?

Will it reduce the ride quality by much? It's only 40mm.

if you are lowering it to get better handling you will probably want to get shocks aswell. just springs will lower the car, make it look better but as a few people have said the ride will be a bit crappy. look on ebay for a full kit inc. shocks or get them separately if you are that bothered about handling.
and you might want to look for some better rimmage too

It's unlikely that they'll let you lower it then.
Not even Vauxhall 15's (found on the post 97 Sports and SXI's) with Vauxhall locking wheel nuts?

I haven't phoned up yet about any mods Deno, I was just saying that it's very unlikely that they will.

All well and good, unless you phone your insurance company to be recovered. They are there within the hour, take you direct to repairer then they give you a courtesy car no time to piss, let a lone take wheels off a car.
