Ok my coffee table has lots of chips on it and I haven't actually had it for very long (since Oct/Nov). It's "beech effect" so obviously not real beech wood. Just wondered if anyone had any ideas what to do- I mean is there anyway of repairing the chips or anything like that? Or am I destined for a life of strategically placing coasters over them when people come round
Pics of said coffee table (apologies in advance for the flash affecting the quality in some pics):

Is it on wheels? If not, turn it upside down!

Ok heres an idea:
I'd say you need to put a new table top on there. The easiest way to do this would be to get some beach effect conti-board from b&q and stick it on top of the original surface. If you were to cut a piece of conti-board exactly the same size as the table top it will look odd when you stick it on. I personally would measure the table top and add 30mm to each measurement. Take your measurements to B&Q and have them cut a new piece of board to the required size. They will do 2 free cuts on their big saw for you. You will also need to buy some beach effect edging strips whilst you're there. oh and some coarse sand paper and wood glue.
you will then need to rough up the top of the table with the sand paper and then do the same to the underside of the conti-board. apply a decent amount off wood glue to the table top and lay your new piece of board on top. before you press it down you need to centralise the new board. because you made the new piece 30mm bigger than the original you will be looking for a 15mm overhang round each side of the table. once your happy that its central you need to apply pressure all over the new table top to make sure the glue spreads. check that it has not moved from its central position and then clamp it in place. then leave it for a good few hours to set.
Next remove the clamps and stick the edging strips on. Some edging is iron on stuff. other edging needs to be glued in place.
i have done this before with my old computer desk and it looked fine. no pics to show you i'm affraid as i no longer have it.
hope this helps
ps. your fit.

Turn it upside down and put a piece of toughened glass on the top using the littel legs to support it.

That *sounds* like it would look quite odd... Trying to picture it and looks bizarre Thanks for the idea, if it doesn't work out with Carl's idea then I may possibly do this.

What C2rl suggested is a pretty good idea i guess, as you have gone through the veneer on the top of yours, so there is no way of repairing the surface. What he suggested is a quick easy fix.
Other than that, removing the existing table top and replacing would be a better looking fix, but that depends if it is glued on or just screwed or ficed with some other type of fixing. If the existing top aint glued on, then just remove it and replace it.
Ps, I personally would put on the edging before fitting.

Get a piece of wood like Carl suggested but take the old one off and replace it totally. Take the old one into B&Q or somewhere and tell them to make one up just like it, holes and all.

Tile over the top.
you can choose a colour or ddesign that you like, and should be pretty simple. You may need some edging strips to neaten it off, but normal tile corner strips should work.
will be cheap to do and a fun diy project.
