Hi People
Really need help ... got a prob with overheating i can drive my car for like 5 mins and my temp goes right up to above the red when i stop the car and look under bonnet theres loads of steam coming from the coolant bottle and theres a hell of alot of pressure coming from there and its boiling like a kettle ! i try and squeeze the rad pipes but they are solid !
someone told me it was themostat then someone asked me if i get hot and cold air inside ? i do yes ... so he said it could be water pump ? ?
also my fan doesnt kick in at all
please help

not sure ... how do i check ? also i have to keep topping my water up cause it overflows my collant bottle

To get rid of an airlock, iirc, you:
Turn on the heaters full blast on hot
Open the header tank, without scalding yourself
Then squeeze the rad pipes untill it stops bubbling in the tank, think the purpose of this is to shift any air thats in the system out by the header tank.
Think thats the way, someone will correct me if im wrong.

thats how i get rid of an airlock but what started it overheating in the first place mate did it just start doing it all of a sudden?

well not sure ,, its come around since i have taken the coolant bottle off to replace a brake line from the master cylinder

I say that it is 99% the thermostat
Mine did the same (didnt let it get to the point that there was steam coming out the bonnet though)

Check if your thermostat works. Take it out and stick it on hot water to see if it opens. If not, replace it. If it does open then it sounds like water pump.

If its a 1.2 8v then the top cam pulley needs removed to get to the thermostat. A new thermostat for my corsa was £6 from halfords so it isnt exactly breaking the bank

its a 1.4 8v SRI hmmm.... i was told the thermostat is behind the manifold ?

hmm attempted to get the rear timing belt cover off lol !!! what a ball ache ! do i need to take the belt off and the pulley ? to get the cover off ? lol
