Is the engine management light flashing? Have you got the transponder chips to match the ecu for the x16xe?

I dont think the x14xe ecu will let it fire?
To test for an earth just make a lead up and run it from the battery to a bolt on the block.

the engine will definately run on the x14xe ecu and were not trying to find a battery earth but one on the engine

What richie is saying is that if you have a dodgy earth on the engine, make a lead up. This will then earth the whole lot.

I wouldnt be too sure of this either especially if there is a large year gap between the engines.
I had two x12xe blocks and they were 4 years out...... turns out the ecu on the older one couldnt work with the coilpack on the newer block as it used a different signal.

Ok then you need to get a multimeter out.
Plug for the coilpack will have 4 wires.
Put the negative prong of the multimeter to the brown wire, and the positive prong to the black wire and check for power when not cranking and when cranking.
Do not go near the black/red and black/yellow wires.

ok well i will have to do that tomo. i get my chip for my key tomo aswel so hopefully i will put the x16xe ecu and transponder in and it may fire. because like you said it may not work on the x14xe ecu and transponder.
