dont know much about difference, but got a replacement one from unipart as mine sounds like bearings perhaps gone. its different to the one i took off. there seems to be something missing off the back, which isnt on the old one. whats the deal with it?

i know fuck all about alts, not a fuckin clue.

Its the voltage regulator Nic, so you need to swap it off the old one onto the new one.

Yep, just unbolt it and bolt it back onto the same terminal on the new one.
Its there to stop the battery overcharging, so you could really do with it!

i see. if you look at the one on the right, in the hole there appears to be an electrical connector. what do i do with that?

apparantly there are dozens of different alts listed for the year of engine that one is from so the auto-elec people couldnt sell me one without seeig the alt. even though the one i was after said from years 1987-1991. useless monkeys.

it looks like teh regulator is inside of the alternator itself as there is no place to mount it on the new one... best bet is to call up uni parts and ask them wether the alternator you have been supplyed has a internal regulator rectifyer.
