I have a corsa sport 1.6 16v and am weighing up the possibities between a turbo conversion or throttle bodies. Anyone who has experience/knowledge about the two feel free to voice up. I would like to know the pro's and cons etc...

Many thanks

Turbo -

Pros:
sweet noise from the dump valve
Nice power gain as well as torque gain

Cons:
Often go wrong
ull find it hard for some1 to do it (dont go to courtney 'bodge job' sports, they will pull ur pants down
Expensive

TB

Pros:
Go for SBD TBs all day, big power gain
Sounds sweet as fuck at high revs
Reliable
Cheeper than a Turbo conversion

Cons:
Costs about 2k for a 164 kit (designed for the 1.6 16v corsa) and u have to fit it ur self
Thats about it lol

Personaly id go for TBs, as SBD now do a add on to the 164 kit which brings it up to around 180bhp

Turboing a NASP engine can cause problems. Most of the time its due to the compression ratio's being totally wrong and the pistons and head gaskets not being able to take the pressurisation. Throttle bodies are the way to go on an engine such as the 1.6. But the Noise will be very loud. I had twin 45 weber carbs (very similar layout to throttle bodies) and i couldn't hear myself think
Good luck with it all tohugh

Other than converting the 1.6 to turbo or tb's you can go for an engine swap, ie you could drop in a 2ltr, or a 2ltr turbo, prices for the 2ltr job are very cheap, you get a good reliable 150bhp std and a load more torque to boot, and with the turbo you get 200bhp and even more torque but is a slightly more expensive conversion and theres more to think about than just the engine.
Ive got a 1.6 on tb's at the moment and im bored of the power its giving now and i want more, but to get more from it ive got to throw a load more money at it, so im starting again with a 2ltr turbo, after driving my mates its soooooooo much more fun...

phone gmc motorsport and talk to them about throttlebodies because sbd's throttle bodies arn't designed for road use this causes a problem because you will find that the power band will be very high in the rev range the reason for this is that because of space limitations due to the bulkhead very short trumpets have to be used. gmc have got round this by designing trumpets with a 180 degree bend in them therefore giving the correct inlet tract and bringing the power band down to a reasonable level. their kit costs £2000 and again you have to fit it yourself but if you can use a spanner you'll manage (it's a piece of piss) have a look at their website www.gmcmotorsport.co.uk and give them a phone but trust me for road use theese are the daddies.

looked at that gmc site doesnt look as if they do any dedicated stuff for Corsa, they look as if they specialise in peugeots and citroens do you think they could handle fittin em to a real car I'd go for SBD stuff, they r tried and tested, got proven results, are specially made for ecotec and you r backed up by a hell of alot of knowledge on these mighty little engines

Totally agree with the above - after all it's mainly thanks to SBD I've got 215bhp from my 1.6 on TBs

GMC know their stuff when it comes to sh1troens, but let's be honest - a turd can only be polished so far....

Depends how much money you throw at it. Ultimatly the turbo could produce much more power. If you did it DIY then you would see more bhp per £ going the turbo route.
