was going to pick up my mate last night from a village a few miles away from my town, wasnt ragging it, looked at my dash cos a light came on, looked at the temperature and it was off the scale!!! pulled over straight away and got the engine switched off, bonnet up and the radiator water filler was spewing boiling water.
got my mate to come meet me with some water, topped it up (i had plenty anyway) and let the engine cool down.
thought id start the drive back.
drove for about a minute and it was already hitting over 100 degrees so i stopped and pulled over, let it cool down again.
then repeated that process several thousand times until i got home.
i dunno whats up with it, the fan wasnt kicking in obviously, otherwise it wouldnt go past 100 odd degrees, but the car never gets hot in the first place when im driving because there's air coming in to cool it down. thats what was puzzling me....
...could it be the water pump? if the pump is broken then the engine isnt going to use any of the air coming in to cool it. also, i dont know where the thermostat for the fan is, but if that was linked with the water pumping system then maybe it is just taking the temperature of the idol water, which isnt hot, so therefore the fan wouldnt come on. hmmmmm.
oh yeah my heaters were working fine, but im going to check again now
any ideas? sorry about the essay!
