I was just on the way back from work and my X14XE, has just stalled with the engine light on, i tried to turn it over and it struggled like hell but with a bit of throttle reved up fine but with the engine light still on,
ive done a paperclip test on it and its showing EGR(which was already changed) and the secondary solenoid valve, which i think is the little bottle type thing that sits on the passenger side suspension strut with vacuum pipes going to it, and a little grey plug.
just wondering if this is wat could be causing the problem, as they are the only faults,
any suggestions would be much appreciated, and i need to get this fixed by the end of TOMMOZ
THANKS

I had running problems when mine was stuck half open, but saying that I never had much trouble starting it again after it stalled (which was very often). I don't know what the secondary solenoid valve does so I'm not much use sorry.

If it stalls when you dip the clutch when moving I'd say its the EGR. Otherwise I've not a clue.

Just read the title, so when the car is sat still it just stalls? Sounds like the EGR to me.

It won't idle at all and will be stupidly rough if the EGR is knackered.

it starts up but only with throttle, it splutters abit then revs,
if u take your foot off the throttle it will bog down then cut out

The fact that it only starts with throttle says ICV to me as well.
But to be honest it can be a number of things.

It sounds like the EGR had exactly the same problem, went round a corner and it stalled then woudnt run unless throttle was fully down which sounded like it was miss firing all down a busy road to get it to a carpark £312 later it was fine lol! I thought if it was the ICV then it would just tick over funny not stall fully.
The SAI system can be fully removed with no EMS light coming on as it is not a needed bit of kit, only needed in some other countries to heat the cat up quicker. Blanked off my manifold on my tigra with a plate and a screw in the vacume pipe then rip the rest out!
Still got it in my 1.6 sport tho due it causing my straight through exhaust to pop like a bitch when cold

i would say egr, they are shit on vauxhall's most places will only clean the egr and not replace till it comes back again, when i first got my car i drove it up the road from the show room and eml came on and ran like crap, first 3 months of owning the car i actually drove it 20 miles as it was in and out of the garage having egr's put on it. Had 5 or 6 in the end (really they just cleaned the old one a few times as they didn't want to shell out for a new one) solved the problem tho, and in almost 30k still aint gone wrong.

My ICV died and it started fine, just didn't idle properly.
