Looking for some oil for my x16xe engined corsa. It is currently running 10 - 40 semi synthetic oil.
However it is using a bit of oil so I was thinking of trying a slightly thicker one. As the haynes manuel list oils from 10 - 40 to 20 - 50 as been suitible.
What would you choose?
Also whats the difference between synthetic, part synthetic and mineral? As the only thicker one I could see the other day was a mineral and assumed that it wasnt suitable
Cheers Gavin

What do you call 'using a bit of oil' as I know the C16XE is classed as normal if using 1 litre per thousand miles according to Vauxhall, so I see little reason why an engine which is essentially similar (stroke/bore) should be any different.
Is it only blowing out of the exhaust due to rings/stems? Are you losing any through leaks?
I used to run my old C16XE high miler Corsa GSI on cheap crap mineral oil that was 20/50, no adverse affects.
For details on the differences type 'oilman' into google (or on here?) as he does some fantastic posts regarding oil and how it operates.

I am thinking of trying this atm http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_253933_langId_-1_CarSelectorCatalogId__CarSelectorGroupId__varient__categoryId_77303_crumb_33958-31345-53252_parentcategoryrn_77303
however once the car is warm it wont be anythicker. cant seem to find anything like 15 - 50 or 20 that isnt a mineral oil
