afternoon folks, ive recently bought a 2nd user PC but the sounds arent working, no start up sounds/astericks etc or music/video

after trawling through the help crap i think it could be something to do with the fact it did have a sound card andnow doesnt - does that sound viable ??

if it is that how can i change it ??

and if you haventguessed yet, im shit with computers

well, it should still have onboard sound (i.e green/yellow/pink circular holes).

You should ensure the speakers are plugged in on the green connector (assumng your using standard 2 speaker setup).

Right click the speaker in the task bar and go to volume mixer, ensure everything is turned up to high volume.

Next right click my computer and select properties, then click on the hardware tab and click device manager, just make sure there are no '!' marks over the sound devicers (the ! symbol will jump out at you if they're present). If the sound card has one of these symbols right click and update driver.

Onboard sound not been disabled in bios has it?

Most people do this if they're using a sound card.

What he said, probably disabled in the bios, when you turn it on press Del to enter the bios (usually del).

Should be an option in there to onboard sounds
