The house i have moved into has bark everywhere, i hate the stuff!!
Want to get rid and have a lawn.... Turf is expensive but if it will work out much less chew i would consider it.
anyone grew a lawn from seed? How long till its ready for sunbathing

I would recommend turf from personal experience.... I'm not sure if it would be cheaper to get seed or turf cos you would need a fair few boxes of seed to do a full garden....
Had mine done last summer, paid £650 for it including 20 tonne of top soil and it took 3 blokes 3 days to do it... (ps when it was finished round the back of the garage was also done!)

i doubt it thats actually not a lot when you look at it, i mean it sounds a lot but if you were to consider how uneven the ground uinderneath may have been

Ive had 2 tonne of stone delivered before and it was a hell of a alot...so 20tonne of soil would be a huge amount.

nope not a typo....came in 2 lots.
They dumped it on my front, a massive mound and the blokes had to barrow it all round to the back garden.
Those big industrial 8 wheeler type things brought it....my garden is still on a slight slant but much better after the extra soil

I can't even see how he would have even made much money out of me cos cheapest I could get turf for my garden was £400 so he may have got it a little cheaper...... soil will have been at least £100 for a wagon to deliver it, then he had to pay his 2 helpers and take some wages for himself.
I got two quotes and the second guy wanted £1050....... he made a good job as well!

he might do mate...I'm a lazy git so he comes once a fortnight to cut my grass. I'll ask him next time he comes.
He's just quoted me for it fencing all the way round...an 80m long garden works out expensive for fencing!!

I agree with Stavs, would take you ages preparing the soil and getting it right.
Weigh up your options, turf is more expensive but takes no time at all to lay, seed is cheaper but you will need to spend a lot of time doing it

If you was to have a quote for a six foot fence (5 foot panel and 1 foot gravel board) from who I work for you are looking at about £3700 for 80 metres and 4 maybe 5 days work (two of us).

Back breaking work, I used a mini excavator to dig out 20odd ton of soil/earth/grass & put down 5 ton of stones....took bloody ages!!

.
Thats fucking cheap, he cant be making much profit at all.
It works out at about £50 a bay and decent panels are about £25 each trade so plus posts and gravel boards, unless its all wooden posts etc.
Try getting a quote around winter time as people dont want as much work done and all fencing/landscaping companies drop their prices quite a bit.
